The Evolution of 4 He and LiBeB

چکیده

Our understanding of the evolution of 4He and 7Li depends critically on the available data for these two elements at low metallicity. In particular, the degree to which there is a slope in an abundance vs metallicity regression can help determine the evolution of He, C, N, and O in dwarf galaxies in the case of 4He, and cosmic-ray induced nucleosynthesis of LiBeB in our own galaxy in the case of 7Li. Recent data and their implications will be discussed.

Sinks of Light Elements in Stars – Part III

See the abstract given in Part I (Deliyannis, Pinsonneault, Charbonnel, hereafter DPC, this volume). In Part III, we first discuss the LiBeB observations in subgiant stars and the constraints they bring on the transport processes occuring on the main sequence. Evidence is then reviewed that suggests that in situ mixing occurs in evolved low mass Population I and Population II stars. Theoretical...

LiBeB, O and Fe Evolution: Refractory Element and Cosmic Ray Transport Delays

In two recent publications (Ramaty et al. 2000a; Ramaty, Lingenfelter & Kozlovsky 2000b) we developed an Fe, O and LiBeB evolutionary model based on a Monte-Carlo approach. We allowed each core collapse supernova to eject Fe and O according to the calculations of Woosley & Weaver (1995, hereafter WW95) or the values given by Tsujimoto & Shigeyama (1998, hereafter TS). For Fe, we added the contr...

Issues of Libeb, Oxygen and Iron Evolution

The evolution of the light elements, Li, Be, B (LiBeB), is an important ingredient in studies of cosmic evolution. Closely related are the evolutions of O and Fe, because [LiBeB/H] are measured as functions of either [Fe/H] or [O/H]. In several recent papers we treated in detail LiBeB production by cosmic rays, and LiBeB, O and Fe evolution. We emphasized a model in which the cosmic ray source ...

Lithium-beryllium-boron Evolution: from Meneguzzi, Audouze and Reeves 1971 up to Now

We review the main sources of LiBeB production and show that a primary mechanism is at work in the early Galaxy involving both ejection and acceleration of He, C and O at moderate energy, which by nuclear interaction with H and He produce light isotopes. The precise measurement of the Be abundance at [Fe/H] = -3.3 and of Li in halo stars find an explanation in this framework. Thus, the preserva...

The superbubble model for LiBeB production and Galactic evolution

We show that the available constraints relating to LiBeB Galactic evolution can be accounted for by the so-called superbubble model, according to which particles are efficiently accelerated inside superbubbles out of a mixture of supernova ejecta and ambient interstellar medium. The corresponding energy spectrum is required to be flat at low energy (in E below 500 MeV/n, say), as expected from ...
